Archaeological Sites

Learn how prehistoric man farmed the shores of Lough Gur by visiting the newly redesigned heritage centre or by taking a guided tour with one of their many local guides.This is the most important archaeological landscape outside of the Boyne Valley in Ireland. The area is now part of Irelands Ancient East because of its wealth of heritage & culture. 

Local Culture

Experience local culture at the crossroads dancing of Ballinvreena,  or take part in one of many local rambling houses. Visit the renowned agricultural mart each Monday in Kilmallock or witness an evening of road bowling in nearby Doneraile. Friars Gate Theatre in Kilmallock hosts an array of exciting productions, check out their calendar at reception. In July & August a Music & Dance show is held in Kilfinane called "hup na houra" and seisuns occur regularly in pubs here. Ita can advise you of evening entertainment at reception. A visit to Ballyhoura Apple Farm is also a must, here you can buy locally produced Ballyhoura Apple Juice, or attend the Ballyhoura Country Market which takes place the first friday of every month. 

Natural Wonders

Explore the magnificent Doneraile Park and afterwards enjoy some coffee and cake at the tearooms or the beautiful cafe townhouse interiors. One of the views from the mountains is of Castleoliver, a striking red sandstone building, which rose to fame as the honeymoon accommodation of Kim Kardashian & Kanye West in 2014! 

Medieval architecture

Kilmallock is one of the hidden Medieval gems in Munster. A walk through the town demonstrates the sheer extent of medieval architecture still standing, Blossom Gate, Johns Castle, the Medieval Mansion not to mention the wonderful extant remains of the Collegiate Church & the Dominican Abbey.
